Your mindset is the most powerful tool in your job search. A positive attitude can be the difference between a closed door and a foot in the door. That's not to say you should ignore the challenges. It's okay to be discouraged, but don't let it keep you down. When I was job searching, I made a conscious effort to keep a positive attitude. It was not easy, but it was worth it. Here's how I did it:
-
Gratitude: Each day, I thought of 3 things I was grateful for. It's hard to be upset when you're focusing on the good.
-
Reframing: I stopped saying "I have to" and started saying "I get to." "I have to" is a victim mentality. "I get to" is a creator mentality. It reminds you that you have a choice in how you approach things.
-
Taking action: I focused on what I could control. I set small goals for myself each week. Whether it was reaching out to new connections or working on my resume, I made progress.
The job search is a rollercoaster, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the ride. A positive attitude can help you stay resilient and make the most of the journey. How do you maintain a positive attitude in your job search? Let me know in the comments.
